We’re excited to be embarking on a major upgrade at Les Mills Auckland City.

We’re talking brighter, better spaces, fixing those long-standing pain points (yep, we feel them too), and setting the club up for the future. It’s a big investment to improve your gym experience – and it’s going to be awesome.

But, let’s be real … it might get a bit messy as the magic happens. When construction kicks off, we expect to be a little tight on facilities. We’ll be doing everything we can to keep things running smoothly, and we really appreciate your patience while we upgrade your space. Like all renovations, it will be worth it in the end – we promise!

FAQS

What is happening at Auckland City over the next 12 months?

We know upgrades can sometimes feel like a long process, so thank you for your patience, it really means a lot.

This year we’re focusing on the changing rooms, starting with the wet areas (toilets and showers). These will be updated with new tiles, modern shower cubicles, fresh lighting, and improved ventilation.

Once the wet areas are complete, we’ll move on to lockers bays and sauna upgrades.

Alongside this, we’re also:

  • Updating the women’s gym with new rubber flooring, equipment, paint, fans, and a more user-friendly layout
  • Reroofing the Group Fitness Studios to fix leaks, followed by new carpet (expected October 2025)
  • Refreshing the lobby and reception area
  • Upgrading the GRIT Studio with new flooring, equipment, paint, and an expanded cardio suite (early 2026)
What is happening in the changing rooms?

We’re completely refreshing the men’s and women’s changing rooms: new tiles, modern shower cubicles, fresh lighting, and improved ventilation.

When does construction begin in the changing rooms?

Work starts in the male changing rooms on 23 September 2025.

How long will the changing rooms take to upgrade?

The men’s changing rooms are expected to begin in September 2025, and be complete at the start of 2026.  The women’s changing rooms will follow, with completion expected in the first half of 2026.

What is the opening date for the changing rooms?

The upgrades will be completed in stages, as we want to keep as many areas open for use as possible.  We expect the first stage in the men’s changing rooms to open by late October. Once this is complete, we’ll be able to confirm the timeline for the remaining stages.

Will the changing rooms be closed at all?

We’re staging the work so that you always have access to some facilities. There will be short closures for certain areas throughout.

Will there be extra facilities or temporary solutions during construction?

No temporary facilities will be available, however showers and toilets in other areas of the gym, including the Group Fitness tower and adjacent to CONQUER® will be available for use.

Maps and signage will help direct you.

What disruption can I anticipate in Stage 1 of the Men’s Changeroom Renovation?

Stage 1 of the men’s changing rooms renovations will involve closing all cubical showers, 2 urinals and 3 cubical toilets.

Will there be more showers/lockers/hairdryers?

We’ll be replacing the open showers with additional cubical showers. Otherwise, this is a like for like upgrade, which means the same number of toilets and showers generally.

Are we getting a new recovery focused space?

Recovery is a huge part of your wellbeing, and we’re excited to be bringing new options to the club. Over the next 12 months we’ll be installing two new saunas - starting with a brand-new men’s sauna, followed by a full refurbishment of the women’s sauna.

Will there be any member disruption while the recovery space is being built?

Yes, the saunas will be closed for the duration of the construction project

Are there time limits for sauna use?

We recommend beginners start with sessions of no more than 5 minutes.  Those with more experience can enjoy the saunas for up to 15 minutes

Do I need to book the sauna in advance?

No — saunas are first-come, first-served.

Are there specific rules for using the new saunas?
