FAQS
OUR NEW SYSTEM
During peak periods, the demand for parking far exceeds availability, leading to significant congestion. While time limits are in place, members often exceed these limits, and monitoring has largely depended on physical checks by parking wardens. This has proven inefficient, resulting in fewer members being able to access parking when they need it most. In response and following the successful implementation of the Parkmate system at the Wellesley Street site, Les Mills Christchurch has decided to adopt the same solution to better manage parking capacity and member access.
The app is ParkMate which you might know from other car parks around New Zealand, run by Wilson Parking. It will operate on smartphones with no tickets required.
Licence Plate Recognition (LPR) automatically starts and stops your parking session when you drive in and out of supported car parks. Simply enable it under your vehicle settings in the ParkMate app. You can find some information about it here.
The new system will come into effect on Monday 20 October 2025.
Please see steps above or watch the how-to video here.
If you don’t have a smartphone then we can validate your parking session at Reception. *Please note that if you’re after additional parking, you can only do that through the ParkMate app. Extra time cannot be added at reception.
The ParkMate app uses a third-party gateway environment for payment, with security controls that are PCI DSS Level 1 compliant, the industry’s highest level of certification. The security controls are reviewed annually via an intensive assessment that ensures the compliance levels are maintained.
A breach will be issued. This breach will be sent out by the post. Breaches are linked with the NZTA database, so they will go to the registered owner of the vehicle.
As a Les Mills member, you still get 2 free hours of parking now by validating your session by scanning into the club. You can even park there twice a day as long as there’s an hour in between parking sessions.
Please see the how-to video here. Please make sure that the e-mail address in your ParkMate app is the same email we have for you here at Les Mills, so we can validate your free time.
Easy, License Plate Recognition means you just drive out of the Car Park and your parking session will stop. Look out for the stop notification and receipt email.
*Please note: if you chose not to use License Plate Recognition or manually started the session, you’ll need to select the 'Stop parking' button in the ParkMate app when you leave the carpark.
Yes, you’ll get a notification 15 minutes before your free session is coming to an end – please make sure that you have notifications from ParkMate switched on.
If 2 hours isn’t enough, you can pay for an additional hours parking for $4 per 30 minutes. The maximum amount of time you can park is 3 hours in one parking session.
No, as per the current system you can’t pre-book a car park.
That’s no problem at all. You can add multiple vehicles to ParkMate by clicking on the menu icon in the app, clicking on 'My vehicles’, and selecting ‘Add license plate’.
At this stage, License Plate Recognition can only be allocated to one ParkMate account, which means two people can’t 'share’ the license plate. You can still start and stop your session manually.
You can still start and stop your session manually. Please see instructions above or the how-to video here.
If you choose not to use License Plate Recognition then you’ll need to select the ‘Stop parking’ button in the Parkmate app when you leave the car park.
If you can’t use License Plate Recognition and forget to end your parking session you will receive a charge for any time parked over 2 hours, until you reach the maximum parking time or end your session.
If the app isn’t working please let our Reception team know in the first instance.
Please call Wilson Parking directly on 09 375 5056.
There is a 10 minute grace period before your alloted time starts.
No.
Then you’ll be at risk of an infringement notice.
On the reverse of the notice is a detailed appeal process to follow. You can also find more information at https://pesnz.co.nz.
